eBay collection
Client: eBay (in-house)
Role: Senior product designer
Overview
eBay collection allows users to track their trading cards. You can see price trends, search product catalogs, create listings, and even access vault storage. Our team explored and shipped a wide range of features, dug deep into research sessions, ran workshops and bug bashes. I built my card collection into the tens of thousands and spent countless hours testing the platform.
UI and architecture refresh
Collection launched with a basic feature set. As the feature set grew, we needed to plan not only the individual details, but also the larger patterns of the categories and sections. One of the main discussions we explored was between a deep screen hierarchy or a single location with exhaustive filter controls.
Set completion
One of my favorite parts of collecting cards is set completion. I dug into a strategy for gamifying this feature and providing rewards, badges, and signals. Integrating catalog search and quick bulk selection was especially interesting.
Sold item archive
This project was originally slated to solve a backend error when items sell from your collection, but I discovered that there was a much larger opportunity for the utility. Research sessions confirmed that our users were tracking profit/loss in ways our platform didn't support, so I integrated spreadsheet functionality into the sold item archive to provide a powerful financial viewpoint.
Bulk tools
I led an effort to allow users to upload spreadsheets to import thousands of cards in seconds. This involved competitor research and a focus on making a complex process as simple and easy to follow as possible. The resulting bulk tools were so successful that we duplicated and expanded them in our vault submissions service.
